International Conference on Food Loss held in Jinan, Shandong Province

On September 9-11, the International Conference on Food Loss was held in Jinan, the capital city of Shandong Province. Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the conference.

At the invitation of Tang Renjian, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, George Eustice, The Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs of the United Kingdom, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the conference. Eustice thanked Minister Tang Renjian for the invitation and congratulated the convening of the conference. In his speech, Eustice highlighted the significance of food loss reduction in achieving the SDGs, introduced the practice and achievements of food loss reduction in the UK, as well as food loss reduction assistance to developing countries. Eustice welcomes China-UK cooperation and contributes to the of world food loss reduction.

Prof Tim Benton of UK’s Chatham House delivered a technical report at the conference.

The Conference also published the "Jinan Initiative", calling for the establishment of a long-term mechanism, promoting international cooperation, gathering global wisdom, and realizing a world with zero hunger.
